Dermal Fillers … Is There Anything They CAN’T Do?

In today’s aesthetic marketplace, there are so many different dermal filler product lines and formulations, and that’s a good thing for you! Your options for rejuvenation and contouring with fillers have never been better. But if you find yourself wondering what’s what and how can they work for me, we’re here to help.

Below, we cover where dermal fillers can be used to smooth and rejuvenate your skin and enhance your facial contours.

Where Can You Use Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are highly versatile and can be safely used all over the face. Sometimes, patients come to us wanting to focus on a single feature but after a little education, understand that a more holistic approach is the best path.

Typically, injectors are looking at an overall global assessment [of the face]. So, we’re not just looking at your lips, we’re looking at what’s around. We’re starting with temples, under eyes, cheeks, nasolabial folds, lips, chin, jawline, every kind of component. Each area ties into the next. And so, you want these smooth transitions, nice structural points, nice balancing, so you really can inject filler in most areas of the face.

Upper Face

Often used in tandem with BOTOX®,  dermal fillers can smooth and refresh the eye and forehead area by treating:

  • Volume loss in the temples and forehead
  • Age-related hollowness under the eyes
  • Puffy bags caused by genetics or displaced fat
  • Dark circles caused by contour irregularities and shadows

Mid Face

Moving on to the middle third of the face, we see dermal fillers having excellent effects when applied to:

  • Sagging or undefined cheeks
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Nasal contour irregularities of the bridge or tip (“liquid rhinoplasty”)

Lower Face

Dermal fillers in the lower face can create sharper or sleeker contours and enhance facial harmony. Popular applications in this area include:

  • Thin, asymmetrical, or aging lips
  • Marionette lines
  • Small, receding, or undefined chin
  • Undefined or lax jawline

How Do I Get the Best Dermal Filler Results?

Choosing a highly qualified injector you can trust is a big part of the equation. The injector’s experience, skill, and willingness to give honest treatment recommendations goes a long way toward creating your ideal results. Whether this is your first time using fillers or you’re an injectables veteran, your trusted injector is there to keep it real (and natural-looking).

In the same podcast episode, Julia cautions patients against fixating on a specific part of the face when seeking fillers. As she says:

I think what happens with people in general—and what our job as injectors is to kind of catch this when it happens—is you start to see your face in features versus your face as a whole. And if you lose sight of that a little bit when you’re looking at like, oh, I love it when I have really full cheeks, or I love it when I have really full lips, I want more cheeks, I want more lips. And you’re focusing again and again on that specific feature, it can lead to an unnatural look when your proportions are not being balanced out how it best suits your face.
